Tristan presents his friend Marcelo with a piece of fabric left over from some curtains. Marcelo had previously preferred a spinning top, but he ends up thanking that gift because he realizes the amount of uses that a simple piece of cloth can have: to clean himself, to protect himself from the sun, to cross a river, to shelter from the wind, to escape from dangers...
Each gift hides, under the bow and the wrapping paper, a disappointment. We often feel disappointed because we are waiting for something else; we think they have not tried hard enough to follow the trail of our desires. But Marcelo finally appreciates the humility of the gift because he and his friend belong to a world in which the most insignificant objects are valued: cardboard, springs, plates, corks, ropes or even a stone can be transformed into a wonderful toy, a fascinating box of surprises.
Marta Azcona treats "A Different Gift" as a reflection on disappointment and, above all, addresses the innate ability of children to give free rein to their imagination and enjoy what they have at hand, no matter how simple it may seem. For them, anything can become a treasure and become a source of fun, a Russian doll that contains all the toys, all the gifts.
Rosa Osuna adds interesting props, such as the presence of a mysterious character who follows Tristan and Marcelo in their adventures. His artistic technique combines painting with pastel and fabric applications.
