After the success of "Mamã", also published by Kalandraka and winner of the VI Compostela International Prize for Illustrated Albums, Mariana Ruiz Johnson now focuses, in this new album, on the experience of a mother who has to be away from home for a few days for work reasons, leaving the father to take care of her young child. "Mommy's Journey" covers the whole process: packing, saying goodbye at the airport, changes to the domestic routine, communicating at a distance thanks to advances in technology and, finally, returning home.
Through a simple narrative made in the first person, we witness the evolution of the emotions of the young son, who begins by missing the presence, the voice and even the smell of his mother; at the same time that he discovers the day to day in the company of his father.

The characters in this story are humanized animals that move in scenarios that are easily identifiable by the readers and that are represented here in soft chromatic tones. In addition to the text, the illustrations also allow you to appreciate the feelings of family members.
After the initial worry and insecurity, normality sets in and everything becomes an enriching experience for everyone.
In short, an album with which many families will feel identified, thanks also to the empathy established with the protagonists.
